TTS 4-1/2″ Retrievable Bridge Plug stops high-rate downward flow
Posted on October 2, 2024
An operator in Vietnam faced a critical challenge when a tubing leak caused a down flow of 6,000 barrels per day (bpd) of water. To address this, the TTS Team evaluated the well parameters and recommended a targeted solution using a Paragon II Packer configuration.
This innovative setup aimed to stop the water flow, allowing for safe and efficient repairs by using the following Thru-Tubing Systems solutions:
The configuration was designed to manage the downward flow in stages:
- Stage 1: The Paragon II Packer was set with the Retaining Sleeve and Flapper Valve Sub in the open position. This configuration sealed off the annulus and diverted the downward flow through the Retaining Sleeve and Flapper Valve Sub.
- Stage 2: The Retaining Valve was then closed to further control the flow.
- Stage 3: Finally, the Flapper Valve Sub was closed to complete the sealing process.
Highlights
- Implementation of the 4-1/2” Retrievable Bridge Plug effectively halted the downward water flow
- Successful repair of the tubing leak
- Demonstrated the effectiveness of staged sealing in managing complex well interventions
